I'm trying to help a friend out with his computer problem. I suspect he may have a virus but I'm not sure. When he boots his computer it won't boot into Windows 98. It gives him some error about a "Disk boot failure. Please insert system disk." I did a Google search for this and came up with two possibilities. Either he's got a bad hard drive or he has a CIH virus. I know there's a tool to clean this virus but I don't know how to do this since he can't boot into windows. Can this be done from DOS? I don't even know if he has this virus but I don't want to do anything to the computer until I know for sure. Scanning with Norton will only make it spread. Any advice on what to do? Thanks for any help.
