Where do memory resident viruses reside?

If they do reside in physical memory, how do you get rid of them?

I ask becuase I have removed a virus but ever since I have had numerous problems.....explained in my other post here

I can't remember but symantec said was low risk......i didn't think it was....done loads of damage

They clear from physical memory (RAM) when you power down, although they can be put back in there on reboot. I wouldn't therefore worry about clearing RAM in this respect.

As often as not viruses are started from the registry on bootup.

You need to identify the name of any known virus on your machine, make a note of it and let us know.

List out the security products you have on board.

I can't remember the name of the virus. I was just glad i got rid of it.

Norton Anti-virus 2003 (fully updated)
Ad-aware SE Personal (fully updated)
SpywareBlaster (fully updated)
SpyBot 1.4 (fully updated)

I have formatted hard drive and reinstalled windows on several occasions and even tried a different hard drive
