ok heres what happenend. i got a virus through AOL Instant Messenger by being stupid and click ing a link sent to me by a freind. when i clicked it it gave me a virus and an icon on the desktop. i tried to delete the icon and it wouldnt let me. then about 30 windows, one for all of my freinds that were signed on on my buddy list, came up and it sent this link containting the virus to all of them. once i got all of them closed i told them not to to open it and i signed off. i then ran an adware scan and a McAfee virus scan on my computer. the virus scan came up with Malware.J virus that couldnt be cleaned, so i quarintined it. a little bit after this my computer shut off. i turned it back on and ran the virus check again. the same two things came back up and i still cant delete them. i need to know how bad this is for my computer and how i can get it off without clearing my HD and installing new windows.
thanks in advance
any help is appreciatedalienware ALX

Often AV programs cannot delete viruses because they are 'in use' as far as the system is concerned. Hence you need to then try running your AV in Safe Mode - hopefully without the nasty being active. You should also empty your Temp folder & temporary internet files folder beforehand (this speeds up scanning anyway). Finally download LSPFix before scanning in case removing the malware affects your internet connection.
