Subject: malware on my pc
OS: 2000
CPU/Ram: 256
Manufacturer/Model: MSI
Comment:

Hi,
I downloaded a keygen the other day for a game but in it was actually a trojan downloader and some other malware. I've done as much as I can to remove most of the threat but there is one lingering problem. There is a file called Trojan.Win32.Agent.qt that my pctools antivirus detects. I went to some websites online and it says this file is a backdoor to downloading other trojans. Can anyone help me to remove this problem? Thanks.

Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.

Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.

Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Please download SmitRemFix from this link http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php Then extract the contents to your desktop.

Open the "SmitfraudFix" folder and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please do not run any other options yet as they can damage an uninfected computer

After you post the above download these tool please.

Please download ATF-Cleaner to your desktop from this link
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/19/2/ We will need it later in safe mode

Download Ewido Security Suite then set it up this way Ewido Setup Instructions We will need this later in safe mode

Be sure to update Ewido

Download killbox to your desktop from this link Killbox We will need it later in safe mode

While you are waiting for Jabuck to respond, let me give you a bit of advice.I have noticed that a large majority of these infected HJT logs contain one or more of the following programs.

Aim
Yahoo Toolbar
AOL software

You have 2 of the 3 and once you are clean, i would re-think using them again.I can't say for certain that they are directly/indirectly involved with the infection but they seem to be.My girlfriend was recently infected with spyware shortly after installing the Yahoo Toolbar and told her to keep it off after i cleaned up her machine. No problems since.Just an observation i wanted to share.

If by any chance you have run option #2 do not run it again.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;

Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;

Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".

Choose your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode, open the "SmitfraudFix" folder again and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing " Y " and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if "wininet.dll " is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing "Y" and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

After posting that report reboot into safe mode.

Run Ht from safe mode, close all windows except HT, place a check to the left of the following items and press "fix checked":

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Run Killbox from safe mode. Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time.

Reply:

when I performed the smifraud program in safe mode I came up with this problem:

16 bit MS-DOS System: C:\WINNT\system32\cm.exe
THE NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

Also, when I went to use Killbox and tried to delete "C:\WINNT\System32\ekof.dll", it did not work because it said the file did not exist.

Any help plz?

Reboot into safe mode.

Run Ht again and remove this:

O2 - BHO: Nothing - {f79fd28e-36ee-4989-aa61-9dd8e30a82fa} - C:\WINNT\system32\hp9CB3.tmp (file missing)

Run Killbox from safe mode. Start Killbox place a tick next to [x]Delete on reboot "Press the All Files button"
Copy this whole list into the windows clipboard, all the bolded file paths below. Copy the following list of files to clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

C:\WINNT\system32\stdole3.tlb

C:\WINNT\system32\regperf.exe

C:\WINNT\system32\dcomcfg.exe

Next in Killbox go to File > Paste from clipboard
"Click on the All Files button."
Next click on the button that has the red circle with the white X in the middle.
It will ask for confimation to delete the files on next reboot and ask you if you want to reboot now.
Click Yes and let the computer reboot. If it doesn't reboot automatically just reboot manually.

Post a new HT log.

After posting the HT log run this free online scan from Kaspersky http://kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html
Click Accept
When the updates are finished downloading, click Next, Scan Settings
Under Scan using the following antivirus database:, select extended
Make sure the Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases options are selected as well. Click OK
Click My Computer and wait for the scan to finish
Click Save Report As. Under Save as type:, select Text file. Save this log to your Desktop and post a copy of it here.
