HELP!!
been having lots of spyware/malware pop-ups lately, been running adware, avg, spybot, regmechanic lots to no avail.tried running everything in safe mode too.still no further. Been dealing with it tho, until 2day when i booted up, logged on, TO A BLANK SCREEN. Desktop pic has been hijacked to a warning screen. All icons and start menu etcgone. when i try to bring up task manager i get a locked by admin message. If i try to switch to other profiles , same problem. Even worse...when i boot in safe mode I still get the same problem, and cannot access anything in windows to run any software at all...just a blank desktop, and no task manager...WHAT DO I DO ???
help much needed b4 it goes through the window. thx

Do not click any pop up to download to any stuff. Be patient, we are going through..

Download the "HijackThis" Installer from this link:

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/e...

1. Save " HJTInstall.exe" to your desktop.
2. Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
3. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
4. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
5.Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
6. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
7. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
8. Paste the log in your next reply.
9. Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Post Hijackthis Log in your next reply.

Heya dj,

I would try to do a repair install of xp home... have you got your xp home cd? What disks did you recieve with your pc?

A repair install is meant to, but is not guaranteed to leave all your photos and music files etc intact. All updates will need to be redone.

Remember if you are going to attempt a repair install not to get it confused with the recovery console.

Instructions for a repair install are at the link below.

There are 4 steps in the procedure on this site... you will need to click on the link at the bottom of each page to follow them all. (It would be an excellent idea to print them out)

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/win...

P.S. Remember to have your product key as sometimes repair install will ask for it to be entered

wow... I kinda know this virus, just not the name. It's using active desktop to show their URL... boot into safe mode and run a virus scan. Post any finds, if you can even get into safe mode. if that doesn't work, just reinstall XP like btklwl suggested.

I'm here to help as best I can...
