I have been using M$ Beta Spyware & like a lot of posts here I am very pleased with it, BUT how long before you go to update & get a demand for $50.00 ?
M$'s propensity to make money cannot be in doubt, just wonder if anyone has heard any rumours of this action taking place in the near future.

I myself like it so far also. I haven't heard any rumblings lately regarding possibly charging for the application.....but Bill can start seeing a dollar sign at any moment, so stay tuned :-)

To be honest with you, I'll be very surprised if they don't charge for it in a years time. Here's to hoping they don't, and to never coming to a point where we start having to patch it every other month too.

From what I have read, it will probably be free, until Microsoft offers its antivirus program for sale. Then, what I speculate will happen, is the anti-spyware program will become part of the security suite that Microsoft will offer. I too find it to be an excellent program. I personally am not that concerned about "tracking cookies" that other spyware programs seem so concerned about!

Interesting posts guys, thanks for that.
Mind you I ditched NAV for free AVG & I am impressed so I can't see myself EVER paying for an AV program in future,
Regards.

Its not an AV program Bob, its a Spyware as the post noted.

The MS (Beta) Spyware is one of the first excellent beta software's that ive ever installed from microsoft, i have it to scan at 2am every morning and does so nicely, it has an excellent interface to it and runs very smothly in the backgroud. Being a beta its still learning some software and then updates a main database of what the user made of the added registry entries which if the software doesnt know it, it will wait for u to accept it.

As for free avg im very causous as i have fixed many a computers with this on and found removing it and installing sophos found many unturned stones. This is possible the factor that comes with the 'Free' avg over the 'Professional' avg.

My mistake for missing capt reply regarding the antivirus software being bundled, appologies.

As for paying for the anti-spyware, i would like to see this part of longhorn as a fight for stability with the internet although microsoft dominating the market issue would arise again.

As im happy with the beta i will try hold on to it as long as i can if they replaced it with a 'payed' version.
