Comment: My wife has Win2K Pro and I've screwed it up by trying to connect it to my 2 PC Ethernet LAN to backup her files. I created a workgroup the same as mine and now she can only logon as an ordinary user. I tried the chntpw solution but the boot fails. Is Win2K Pro different ?

Grab NFTSdos Pro (http://www.winternals.com/).
Boot with a Win98 boot disk.
Run NFTSdos. It'll mount your NFTS drive.
Delete the sam file. The Admin password will be set to null.

Reply: Not a good idea to delete the SAM file! will prob end up needing to repair. But - if the problem is needing to find out the current password then your best bet is to use NTFSdos.exe to boot and copy your SAM file to floppy. Then use l0phtcrack to get the password from it.
