Lost pictures on USB drive

Seagate Usb 2.0 external hard drive - 2t...

Specs: Windows XP, Pentium 4 3gHZ / 2Gigs
My daughter has just returned from a trip to Australia, where she downloaded her pictures to a 500Gb portable drive to ensure she kept her precious memories. She used PCs at drop in places, and as a result, both her camera and drive have contracted the worm vb.12.ah, and all pictures have disappeared. I have run Recuva and Recovermyfiles on both devices with no luck, but we know there are many pictures still there, as when viewing the camera card in the camera, all of the pictures are there, windows just cannot see them.

both drives seem to have nothing but 1k shortcuts such as ZgG zfx zMo which lead nowhere.

Any ideas?

Some of the newer, bogus antispyware programs have started to hide documents, program files and desktop icons. It’s possible that the bogus antimalware has hidden your daughter’s files. Type these commands to reset the attribute (the capitals are for clarity only, but note the spaces in the commands):

Open a Run window (Windows Logo key+R), type CMD and press Enter.
Type C: and press Enter (change C to the external drive letter).
Type ATTRIB –H /S /D and press Enter (this may take some time).
Type EXIT and press Enter.

thanks for the tip, but I found another way around it!

I used Spacemonger to check if the pitures were still there, occcupying space and they were!

Spacemonger now has a 'copy' facilty, so I copied the 'hidden' directories to my C drive, reformatted the USB external drive and used the camera reformat to fix that.

Everything now working, thanks
