Reply: Please post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the virus/spyware/hijacker can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed. Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum. Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly. Download win32delfkil.exe from this link http://users.telenet.be/marcvn/tools/win32delfkil.exe and save it on your desktop. Double click on win32delfkil.exe and install it. This creates a new folder on your desktop "win32delfkil" Close all windows, open the win32delfkil folder and double click on fix.bat. Follow the prompts. It will tell you to shut down your system with the power button make sure you shut down with the power button Restart your computer afterwards. Post a new HT log

Reply: I cannot log on to my laptop. When I log on with my password, it immediately begins saving my settings and logs me off. How can I get in to download hijack? I am using a borrowed computer to communicate now Thanks

Reply: Have you tried booting into safe mode? copy the Hijack this file to disk then load it to your computer when you get on Also try this program to remove the file once you know where it is KILLBOX Tap the F8 key when it begins to boot " You're only as safe as your last update "

Reply: Try starting the computer in safe mode. Shut the computer down, wait 30 seconds, push the start button and immediatly begain pressing F8 at about 1 second intervals. This may take a few tries to get the timing right. Once it boots at the option screen using the arrow keys navigate to "last known good configuration" and press enter.

Reply: I have used the safe mode in order to log on and my laptop still logs off after that. I have tried using every option under the safe mode and none has worked F5 & F8 including last known good config

Reply: It sounds as though you are going to have to do a repair install. There is a remote possibility that you could run userpasswords2 from a command prompt with an xp cd to boot without a password or reinstall the boot.ini file. Post this in the xp forum and see if someone over there can help you do one of these. I am not fimilar enough with the procees to help you. They will need to know if you have an xp cd or a manufactuers recovery cd.

Reply: Try this: Try this, usually works. The problem is to with some spyware, and when removed (by adaware) causes the behaviour you guys are describing. First off, boot your computer from your Windows XP restore cd/OS cd, when the menu comes up hit the R key to get to the recovery prompt.
The prompt should start off at C:\Windows. Type cd system32. The prompt should now read C:\Windows\system32 Type: copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe Reboot

Reply: I will first try to boot using my restore disc. I need to know if I will lose my date when I go through this process. I have a lot of information, pictures and website construction data on my laptop that I need. I checked the process out and hit recovery. I stopped before proceeding because I was not sure if I would lose any data. I did not see the prompt C;\WINDOWS just information to proceed, when would I see the promnpt?
