Hey,
i want to keep a folder secure. Is there any way that I can set a folder to automatically ask for a password when someone tries to open it. If this would work for individual files, that would also be great.-Keelan

Assuming your HD is formatted NTFS and EVERY user has a seperate User ID and Password:
Create a folder\Right Click the folder\Click Properties\"Security" tab.
Below the lower box, remove the check mark from "Allow Inheritable Permissions" It will ask to "Copy" or "Remove", click Remove.
In the top of the properties box, ADD yourself into the permissions list.
Put a check mark in "Full Control" in the lower box.
Click "Apply" then click "OK".
Now, no one can get into the folder unless they have your User ID and password, other users can see that the folder exists but are disabled from viewing it's contents.
Without your sign in, only an administrator get get past the security without going to extreme measures.

thanks, that makes sense, but lets say the folder is on an external hard drive that goes between computers and OS's. Also, I would like it if any user who is on the computer can enter a password to enter the folder. What I mean is that they do not have to be signed in to my name on the computer.

Nothing built into Windoze will do that yet, there is one possibility.
Use WinZip to create a Zip file of the files you want protected. Within WinZip there is the option of password protecting the Zip file.
Anyone attempting to open the archive will be prompted for the password.
