Hey, I was randomly infected by some spyware/viruses and the got rid of them using my updated Ad-Aware SE Personal. I use McAfee Enterprise and Zonealarm (free) and they're all updated.

The problem is that I can't change my wallpaper. There is no wallpaper right now. When starting up, I see it until the desktop icons and files appear. I go to change my desktop, but it's completely locked. My computer no longer says it's infected.

I'm computer savvy, but this is weird to me. I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

dbzgod9, Go to the link below and under the letter "W"---"Wallpaper - Desktop - Disable Changing" click on "Allow Wallpaper/Background Changes" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

Thanks for the quick response Tufenuf; however, the problem continues. I downloaded that file, said yes, restarted my computer. Nothing was fixed. Again, thank you very much for the quick reply!

dbzgod9,
It's possible that Active Desktop is enabled. To Disable Active Desktop. Open the Control Panel.
Open Display Properties.
Click the Desktop tab.
Click the Customize Desktop button.
Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
Make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked including My Current Homepage.
Restart your computer.

Tufenuf,
I did it. No effect. I restarted again and in safe mode and did full-system scan with my Ad-Aware, restarted and still isn't fixed. What I just attempted seemed to help someone else, but didn't help me for some reason.

this link isn't me, but it shows that it should've fixed it. or my computer has a very dark personality...

hey, it seems as if your computer is infected. nothing to worry about. i have worked with a few computers that have had the same problem, it has nothing to do with your settings. first off, the easiest way to treat this is to start up in safemode, which you get in by either pressing f5 or f8 when your computer starts to boot up, click safemode with networking, when your computer boots up, there will be an extra username called administrator. dont click on administrator, click on your username that you originally use. when you are now on your computer, update ad aware and run that a few times. then run spybot search and destroy. if you dont have that program, go to download.com, it is a free software. after you run that, run zonealarm anti virus, if you dont have the virus scanner for zonealarm, i recommend you get that, it is most definitely better than mcafee, but for the time now, just download the avg anti virus which is free. make sure you do all of this in safemode. after running all of those, you can restart your computer in its regular mode and you should be able to change it

It sounds to me that there's there is a program running from startup. You could always check the usually places. ie. startup folder, registry run keys etc.
hope this helps
