Locked out of laptop, the laptop itself not windows

April 11, 2012 at 16:14:36
Specs: Windows XP
here is a heartbreaker but I am sure not uncommon. My brother was recently found passed away and I have just returned from his state after packing up his personal belongings and shipping them home. I have his laptop in my possession, it is a dell and where all of his appointments were kept and business dealings. Aside from removing the hard drive and getting in to it that way is there anyway to get in to the laptop. I have not yet called Dell I thought I would reach out here first. I am willing to provide a death certificate if necessary as I realize this world we live in has become quite questionable with respect to hackers and scammers etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

unfortunately we don't help with bios passwords on laptops. You will have to call Dell and prove ownership.

You can actually physically remove the drive, slave it to another PC and get your files, that is not hard to do at all.

...I realize this world we live in has become quite questionable with respect to hackers and scammers etc."

Which is why (as XpUser4Real mentions) we don't offer support for removing passwords. Having a friend with a similar issue (also involving a Dell machine), I found out that Dell was able to help him gain access to his deceased-fathers' machine.
