Advice on Limewire pls... Have noticed a few posts regarding spyware.
Anyone using it with/without problems?
all comments appreciated.KaiserSausage
No object in the universe can possibly move at a speed greater than the speed of light...

Limewire itself has no spyware. MPGs, JPEGs and MP3s are generally virus and trojan free, everything else to download is full of viruses/trojans and malware. They can easily have your address using Limewire itself, so do not illegally download music.

Thanks XPUser & Capt... $15,000 gulp, think I'll be careful at what I download! I am running antivirus software, but if a "creative" individual uploads something fresh off the pad, then antivirus is not gonna be a lot of good.
The IP disclosure order wasn't something i was aware of, thanks for the warning. If a firewall is hiding your IP address, does this apply to P2P programs, or because it operates behind the firewall does it mean anyone can see where your at?
thanks

A firewall blocks or hides you from people that are searching for open systems. However, when you visit a site, your ip address is required to gain access. If you go to Symantec, Sygate or Gibson Research websites and use "shields up" or other security scans to test your firewall you will see your address. There are unethical sites that use this, to trick you into thinking something is wrong. They will then attempt to sell you their product to protect you. Limewire also needs your address to make a connection. You can see it at the top of the page when you are using it. It also has a chat feature, so that you can communicate with those people that you are sharing your downloads and uploads with. There are some security people, who file sharing advocates would describe as extreme, that are dead set against allowing shared files. They warn, that you have compromised your system by opening the door when you share. They think that it is not difficult for a hacker to take the next step using your shared files to gain access to all your files. If you have disabled file and print sharing to increase your security, you can see their point.
