Let's lay out CN Rule for Posting

I don't know if this is appropriate but I will go ahead and take the chance for ridicules :-)

I cannot help noticing that more people are coming here for help. They start off by saying "I Think I have Virus" and they give no clues what if any check they have ran.

I think it is now appropriate that we lay out a groundwork from which we can refer them to follow before we can help them. Suggestion for the groundwork are like run AV, defrag the HD etcetra and lastly do not ever post HJT log unless asked.

Those that do not follow the new rule will see their posts get pulled.

If you feel it's a useless proposition, please feel free to delete this thread.

Just a thought.

(P.S. I believe this will lighten the burden off Jabuck.

IMHO, the subject: help me and other type posts have been a burden for quite awhile now. It would just be good if they used a significant subject so at least a helper can see what the problem is without having to weed through numerous posts like that and also it would be easier to find answers to certain problems..PROVIDING the poster replies on which answer worked for him or her.

There are so many posts that never let anyone know and that's a shame for the people trying to help.

As far as having posts pulled if they don't follow the posting rules, that may be a touch and go proposition IMO

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Much of these suggestions are already in the rules. The trouble is that not many posters read them. Perhaps the answer is to make the rules more prominent.

There is a big flash that says don't post an HJT log unless requested but still some of them ignore it.

Speaking of HJT logs, Jabuck respectfully requested many posters to please post the log. However 9 out of 10 users simply disappeared afterward and never returned to post it. Maybe we scared them by telling them what they have to do before they can post the log or maybe they were not technically capable of understanding the instructions given them. To that end, we may never know.

I propose that these threads be pulled once it reaches the bottom of the first page of S&V threads. The reason is simply not to waste CN servers with useless threads.

Hey,

I disagree with removing the threads after they get old enough. There really is no point (and its kind of a pain). In the grand scheme of things they don't tax the server hardly at all. The whole site (with all server files) is only 18 gigs, and that's since the beginning. I mean, that's relatively small. Don't worry about space.

As for your other idea, I like it. However, I don't think we should pull posts for it. Its a little complicated for a new user to follow.

XP, SUPERB!

The only thing I would add is if anyone posts without naming their AV program, IGNORE their post.

There are WAAY too many users online running without AV protection, and as we all know this is suicidal!

Martin

It's bad enough getting posters to give the info requested when they sign in, so to expect information without the website even asking for it is very hopeful.
