I recently removed a bunch of spyware with spybot and when I boot up windows I get the message "Invalid Backweb Application ID "8876480". Backweb was the name, as you may know, of one of the spyware programs in my computer, how do I get rid of this error message now?

Backweb usually comes with HP's and maybe compaqs according to this thread. I found a forum thread about that error. The advice was to go to add and remove programs and uninstall backweb.

Another response said to look for it in the registry and delete the backweb entries:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre
ntVersion\Run

I don't know where the backweb came from, I built it myself. Does anyone know what this program is supposedly for (other than spyware).
oh, and I hate to sound stupid, but how do I get into the registry? I remember doing it once on my old computer but that was Windows 98 and it was a very long time ago.

backweb is a software company/product.. from what ive read it gives other companies an easy way to update software over the net.

for example.. hp was using it so they could install software updates and patches to hp owners pc's in the background.

It gets identified as spyware because it could potentially be used to install adware/spyware anything.

To get in the reigstry start/run/regedit.

As you may or may not know.. its very possible to screw things up while editing the registry. Perfectly safe to browse it so long as your not deleting things by accident or otherwise. Deleting any backweb entry should be safe since you already removed part of it.
