I had a virus about a week ago saying "Virus alert!" in taskbar, changed my background and was trying to make me buy some anti spyware stuff (think its SpywareQuaked and SpywareQuake apparently). managed to get rid of it by eventually getting into system restore. after that ran mcafee and it found 2 dodgy files that i deleted and thought that was the end of that. But noticed that my laptop is running slow every now and then. Tried to remove "kservices" (came with channel 4 tv program) from my startup and says i have to be the administator! well i am the only user and it was comming up with the same message when had the virus. so thinking theres still a few bits left over from the virus. any idea's how to remove it?

Check msconfig for weird programs, or disable everything if unsure, don't reboot yet. Download SuperAntiSpyware, update it and reboot into Safe Mode. Now run it and do a full system scan. Reboot once done, and recreate your profile (BACKUP YOUR DATA).

Two programs will resolve this issue for you and both are free.
The first is Spybot Search and Destroy and the second is Smitfraudfix.exe. smitfraudfix should be ran in safe mode.
Also ditch Mcaffee as it is junk. I will not say go buy XYZ as I don't want to apear to be spamming
