Hello,
I have a sony vaio running windows xp.pentium 4, 1,59ghz with 384mb of ram. In my pictures folder a file appeared called leavecri. When I put my mouse pointer over it, the description is a tic file 28.0 kb. When I click on the properties it has nothing,0 bytes and no description. Under the properties I click on the virus tab.It states "the file does not exist,or requires higher privilege to...see the virus log for details." on this tab is a description of " leavecri.tic " I have searched everywhere trying to find out what this is. When I try to delete or rename this I get an error message " can not delete (or move) (or rename) file: can not read from source file or disc ". Does anyone know what this is? Do I need this file on my computer and or how do I delete it.
Another file keeps popping up in my images file. The only desciption is a little ( ~ ). I have know idea where this comes from? This file I just delete! But it keeps reappearing. I have and I use nortons, pc-cillian, trojan remover, sygate firewall, ad-aware, and spybot.I have done online scans at trend, nortons (sys), pcflank, and a couple others. Nothing has ever been detected on my system. Does anyone know what the he-- these are? I run no cookies except for msn, msn hotmail, and passport to log into hotmail. Can someone please help me and tell me what these files are. I thank you very much for your time and help!

A .tic file appears to be used in Unix and Linux for a BBS type program... but I could be wrong.

When you do a search on your computer...

start button
search...
all files and folders
and put in the parameters *.tic

does anything appear?

reply back...

Hello Tank 863,
I thank you for taking the time to try and resolve my little problems. To answer your question: in my search of my machine entering tic, the only thing that is found is " leavecri.tic " and the location is in my pictures folder. This is the only file on my computer with "tic". I thought about downloading the viewer you mentioned, but I am afraid to open this file. Soon after the "tic" file appeared, the other file " ~ " in my images folder started appearing. I am able to delete this. This " ~ " file keeps reappearing.( only in the images folder ). The only description is the little wavey line. (o bytes) nothing else. I have searched windows, google, ect, trying to find out what these files are. I read about the linux and unix link you described and became more baffled?? I searched for tic files relating to linux and unix with the name leavecri, and found nothing. I just hope it is not some kind of virus, worm, spyware ect. I am just baffled that I can not get rid of this "tic" file and where did it come from. Nothing on my system seems to be effected execpt the " ~ " file that keeps reappearing. This seems to contain nothing!
Again, Tank 863, thank you for your time and help in trying to resolve this problem for me. I must be drunk, lol

hi bill,
assuming that the file leavecri.tic is a virus of some kind, cause i can't find anything on this:
try going to the internet and open up the tools button hit the option button, and delete all internet temp files including offline, delete cookies, and history, go to temp files and delete all tmp files. then clean out your recycle bin.
also check out your win and sys.ini files for unusual starts. this is one of the reasons why many people like dos, you could probably delete the file in dos, but since xp is an ntfs system try deleting in safe mode: scan machine with anti-virus, anti-trojan, if you can install regprot, a free registry monitor, go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to it from there.
also if you can afford BoClean, get the best anti-trojan and run it.
as with tank863, i find this case baffling, and maybe anyone like the capt., the kid, jackg, wawadave, www, may have an answer.
hope this helps, all the best,
murve

I found out what a .tic file is:

you can find it on the following site:
File extensions lookup

it says that the .tic file is an extension used by Arcinfo Coordinates File (GIS-related file).
It would be maps of some sort. That would explain why it is in a zip type file.

Also.. the following web site is ARCView...
Arcview 3.x

TIC file
The coverage file used to store tic coordinates and tic IDs for a coverage.

Hope this helps...

maybe the tic viewer will help after all...

IBD,

if you want.. you can email the file to me and I will use the viewer on it if you are not comfortable doing it.

I do this for a living so.. it won't be nothing new and it sure as hell won't damage my system...

because I have 2 systems.. one set up for computer forensic work (a clean machine), the other for play.. lol

Tank863.

If you like, email the file to:

HELLO AGAIN,
Thanks Murve and Tank! Murve, I have tried all of your ideas over and over except buying the boclean. I may check it out. I'll ask them if they can help first before I waste any more money trying to get rid of this. lol ! (It doesn't look that bad sitting in my pictures folder anymore, lol !)
Tank, I have downloaded the viewer. I'm having a beer and thinking about opening it if I can. oh shi- !( I don't know if I have the guts yet ). I tried every way that I know how, to attach this file to an email and the dang thing won't move. I even tried using my other email addresses at yahoo, juno, aol, and hot mail! I even tried to drag it to an email, lol ! I have tried to drag it to the recycle bin and quarantine it with 3 different antivirus programs!
That is another thing that has me worried. It seems that a tic file can be moved or emailed. The zcviewer description explains: ( that if you receive a lot of tic files , the the zcviewer is what you need ! ) you may recieve a lot of tic files, but by god, they are a *pain in the a--* to move. lol !
I am going to search now to see if there is a different way to send tic files that I do not know about? If you have anymore ideas PLEASE let me know. Tank, you have guts for wanting it. It's driving me to drink, lol !
Thanks again Ya'll !
