The latest round of on-demand tests have been released from AV-Comparatives Click 'Online Results' and then 'August 2006 Online Results'. As you will see, the surprise of the tests was 'Antivir'. Really left the other freebies in it's dust!.

Between that and the Consumer Reports September article about which AV is the best, I am not sure which prevail over the other.

Tests like these should be one of the factors in basing a decision on what AV to use. But it shouldn't the only factor. All i will say about the author of these tests is that he is independent and well respected, even by the antivirus companies. And a few months from now will be the 2nd part of the test based on 'Heuristics'.

Look closely at the polymorphic virus detection.Avira(AntiVir) is one of two programs that detected 10/10.Avira definitely was impressive. The free version detection is the same as Premium in this test.Anotherwords a #2 ranking for a free program! Good for Avira!!
