Comment: The latest round of on-demand tests have been released from AV-Comparatives Click 'Online Results' and then 'August 2006 Online Results'. As you will see, the surprise of the tests was 'Antivir'. Really left the other freebies in it's dust!.

Reply: Tests like these should be one of the factors in basing a decision on what AV to use. But it shouldn't the only factor. All i will say about the author of these tests is that he is independent and well respected, even by the antivirus companies. And a few months from now will be the 2nd part of the test based on 'Heuristics'.

Reply: Look closely at the polymorphic virus detection.Avira(AntiVir) is one of two programs that detected 10/10.Avira definitely was impressive.The free version detection is the same as Premium in this test.Anotherwords a #2 ranking for a free program!
