My laptop was working fine, I have virus protection. Then an alert came up telling me I had a warning. I tried to clear it but it wouldnt let me, and the computer logged off. I now turn it on and no icons appear, it goes to the windows start up screen then logs its self off - help?? I dont know what to do next?

My laptop does the same, i dont know why its doing it? Iv recently had a bad virus but iv got rid of it, mine also came up with the warning on my desktop screen and wouldnt let me change it back, also i could'nt Ctrl, Alt Del. I have 3 anti-virus protection now and they got rid of it with continious scanning. When i log on my laptop it logs me straight off and also the other accounts on my laptop are affected as they wont let me log on either. I know a IT Practitioner and he was considering formatting it as i cant use it.

I had this problem. It was caused by something (I think) to do with the fake userinit virus.

I'm am far from an IT professional - so perhaps ask someone who knows more about this stuff about this type of virus? Could be the same cause.

I was able to log back in by creating a BARTPE start-up CD which allowed me to edit the system behind the scenes (something you're supposed to know what you're doing to take on). From there however I was able to recreate the real userinit file and it seemed to work. I wasn't editing the registry, and BARTPE allows you to do that - all advice however is that this is best left to professionals. Maybe someone on here knows more?

My laptops still got loads of problems however....
