I am trying to help a friend out with her Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop. This all began 2 weeks ago when she got the Antivirus 360 virus. I went to the Norton site to get the remove tools and did all they said. The virus appeared to be gone (no more pop ups and clean searches,) but ethernet connection stopped working. The more time I've spent with this machine the more problems I am finding with it. System Restore doesn't work. Defrag doesn't work. The list goes on, and it seems that every time we start this thing back up, something else is wrong with it, which brings us the latest problem...
The laptop can't start up. I was trying to open a file and got a "preparing to go into hibernation mode" message. Tried to restart, and during the startup got a message that said something along the lines of "battery too low" and it shut off again. Now it just turns on, shows the dell symbol, and when the bar gets about halfway, it turns off/hibernates again.
