Laptop freezes after start up.

Specs: Windows Vista
My laptop is freezing after start up (anywhere between 1 minute and 4 minutes afterwards). I try different things every time. I don't know if it is a virus or if it is a hardware problem. It started yesterday around 2PM and I have restarted a lot of time since then and don't know what to do. It also freezes in safe mode, but it seems to generally last longer. Every once in a while when I try to run safe mode, it never passes the loading drivers screen though, so that is really weird to me.
I've booted from my Vista CD, tried all my options from the repair menu. Nothing is saving me though. I had a similar problem last Feb. however, Vista CD saved me, so I'm not sure what to do.
Any help would be great, keeping in mind however, I can't do much as it always freezes very shortly after boot!

My situation has somewhat changed over the course of the day. My new account runs fine (not hardware issue) however my comp freezes when I try to move SOME of my media to my external, fortunately most of it has been moved fine, however the stuff I am unable to move is rare basketball games etc. I don't want to lose these. Once I find a way to get these moved, my problem will be solved, because I will be happy enough just doing a new install of my vista CD. But I stumped as to what the next step is to getting these moved, this is the only help I ask for, is how I can somehow move this media that freezes every time (in the past it all worked normally). Any advice?
