I'm running Tiny Personal Firewall 2.0 on win 98 and win ME boxes. On the status window the exe file krnl386 is listed 3 times as "listening" on TCP and UDP protocols. Does anyone know what krnl386.exe is doing? I've also seen krnl listed as connected to the internet on Sygate's firewall. v5.0 I think. Windows explorer also was trying to connect to the net while running Sygate and Tiny PF. I've totally blocked krnl386 for TCP and UDP on the filter page of Tiny PF but it still seems to be doing something. Thanks for any help.

hi rd icculus, here's some info on krnl386.exe: KRNL386.EXE - Krnl386.exe manages memory, loads programs, and schedules tasks. it may be corrupted or is just going about its business, if it is corrupted i would be very carefull not to delete it as it may screw up your machine nicely. check out google on how to replace it if it is corrupted. also don't try and block it as it is an essential part of the windows operating system and you may experience some malfunctions in your day to day computing experience. also you should not allow windows explorer any access to the internet. hope this helps, murve
