hi. the symantec tool can't clean up klez from my laptop because it is in used files such as cmd.exe and explorer.exe. what are my options? i am running win2k on a dell inspiron 5000e laptop. thanks.

thanks. however, it reports that those files are infected, copies them, says it will clean them upon restart, but they persist. so, the problem still exists.

Try an on-line virus scanner. If you have got klez then it has definitely disabled your AV program. Installing another AV program will only be disabled also. One on-line virus scanner is Trendmicro.com. They also have instructions on removing the Klez virus. Good Luck!

Hello,
These files are already open in Windows mode. So restart your computer in SAFE mode and try again. I will recommend you try this tool CleanKLZ.exe. But you should start your system in SAFE mode first. You can get it from http://srnmicro.com/downloads/CleanKLZ.exe
