Keyboard stick or virus?

Specs: Windows XP sp2, Pentium 4; 2 gig
A friend of mine has been experiencing this lately. She'll be typing in a trillian chat then her computer will start typing the letter 'p' over and over. It isn't her keyboard sticking since even after unplugging the keyboard it still goes. It keeps typing 'p' until she does a forced shut down. Then it stops. This has happened twice now and is worrisome. Any ideas?
Also, along with this her mouse has been acting oddly. After running virus scans (AVG) we find nothing.

It still could be the keyboard. The IRQ was already sent so after you unplug it, the PC is still responding. Try another keyboard even if you buy a cheap one.

I had the same problem once. I was told that I could wash the keyboard in the dish washer. It kept typing +++++++++++ on my Unix box because it never dried properly.
