Whats up all. I'm form PA, and I am doing an article on Kazaa, for my school newspaper, and the problems it will cause your computer to have. I was wondering if someone could give me a list of some sort of the problems or disadvantages that Kazaa has, and maybe some ways to solve it or better programs to use.

Hi Gregory.Norm's link mentions Brilliant Digital.I am a former kazaa user.ZDNet's anchor desk did some write-ups on Brilliant Digital also(April and May).Besides risking getting a virus or worm on your computer(I got a virus from a kazaa file),you WILL get the "extra goodies".These are bundled in downloads. Most Kazaa users don't even know that they are on their pc.Brilliant Digital is a program that has some dubious goals. After your computer slows down, and you start hearing about spyware, you should run Adaware or Spybot search and destroy. Then you really find out what you have on your pc.And you just hope that you haven't downloaded a file with a worm or virus also.kazaa is a huge target for malware (virus etc...)They don't intentionally do that at kazaa. But they do know about the bundled programs!IMO kazaa is one of those "enter at your own risk" deals.Regards.JB

Any file sharing program can be risky. You download things you do not know may be infected and may allow access to your computer by someone else. Also people look for ports to exploit using with these file sharing programs. Download Zone Alarm as a fire wall which is free and for more detailed info on intrusions Virtual Zone which works with Zone Alarm.

yes it is risky to download stuff from kazaa, BUT... by using some common sence anyone can avoid getting viruses in their system.
by example, when searching for a song you want to hear make sure the one you choose is actually an MP3 file, regardless the name it has if its not an MP3 file then it must likely is a virus, same thing with wavs, video or even jpg files.

the trick is not to be missled by what the file name is, look for its format.

I've been downloading from Grokster, (same as kazza) for a while, even since it all started with napster and never had a virus in my pc.

to recap, YES it is dangerous to download things from others but not as dangerous as they say

WinMX is the alternative to kazaa and grokster because it does not compromise your privacy and if u search forr files it can bring up to 3000 flies.kazaa and grokster both containn spyware called Cydoor but it can be beaten e-mail me if u have further questions
