Kaspersky avp.exe eating up cpu usage

Recently I have noticed that at times my computer will be running much slower than it should be, and bringing up task manager has shown that a lot of memory usage is going to avp.exe. Reading up on the topic I found that it does seem to be a legit process (I have Kaspersky 8.0.0.506 installed) and is located in an appropriate folder.
I've read a couple topics that have addressed a similar issue, but I wanted to make sure that whatever fix I try is appropriate for this latest version of Kaspersky. Any help would be appreciated!
