I'm looking at these two.

Does anyone know the difference between Kapersky's Personal and Personal Pro? I saw the site but can't decipher the difference.

I had heard that Kapersky does Trojans as well as viruses. Yes? All versions?

Is Kapersky a little harder on computer resources than NOD?

I'm thinking that if I have to buy NOD, and then a Trojan killer on top of that, it would be as cheap to buy a more expensive app which did both.
Thanks.
d

Kaspersky pro can scan Outlook, Excel and Word along with outlook Express. It is geared to business people that send large documents files back and forth using Microsoft Office products. Yes Kaspersky is good at detecting trojans. They also have excellent customer support. NOD 32 also provides great customer support. There is one thing that Kaspersky does on its initial scan that bothers some purists. It identifies files, which in later scans speeds up Kaspersky's scans. These tags bother some people. Most people that use Kaspersky never switch to another program so for them it is no big deal. Its scans are so thorough that it will identify files in Spybot and Adaware as password protected. If you want to see some tests about Kaspersky go here

Yes it does use more resources than NOD32.

It is hard to choose between those two because they are equally highly efficient. If you ask me I'd say it all boils down to personal preference(s).

I tried both after defecting from NAV, and finally settled for KAV over NOD, not because it was way better but for things like the updates, customizable options and trojan protection.

I use the personal version and have no need nor desire for the pro version, so I can't tell you what more the pro version offers over personal.

Thanks very much, you two.

Decision, decisions. I don't use MS office ware. "updates, customizable options and trojan protection" yes, that's why I suppose I will have to do the trial Kapersky thing.

Capt, do you mean that KAV puts tags on files, and the tags remain if KAV is removed? And if so, is this problematic?

Thanks again.

According to one antivirus forum it does. It does not seem to cause any problems, but some purists do not like any extra things in any files left when they uninstall any program. The only antivirus program I have ever had uninstalling was Norton. I was able to fix it by using Symantec's removal tool. If you use Zone Alarm pro, the antivirus monitoring will not function with Kaspersky. This is no big deal for most people, but then some purists that want everything to be perfect and flawless might get upset. Another program is F-Secure. It is an excellent antivirus program. You can get a six month free trial from the Microsoft Update site(three steps to security). The only thing I did not like was that it uses "back web" as their updater and it can be very slow downloading updates, but they come very frequently. It is kind of a picky observation that I made.
I never had a problem with Kaspersky and the updates come so often that it kind of amazes you, so you are always up to date with the latest definitions. One observation that I have found is that most antivirus programs leave things behind when you uninstall them.

first and foremost NOD32 is THE BEST av on the market period. thats not my opinion its simple facts....
here are the facts.
http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/products.xml

choose your brand and see if it has passed 100% viruse test more than nod32.

but of course use what u want...but this post was for the best av.

i personally dont see why anyone would use kaperspy, my god its failed 13 times. norton 6 times rest are worse. i want the best possible software for myself and my customers, yes i have used kaperspy and no i dont like it, when i saw first hand the detection failure of a particular win32 trojan variant.

nod32 has trojan def, u just got to know how to setup the advanced heustic scan for detecting them.

happy holidays
