Seems to act like a virus or trojan.
When first booting up, the pointer changes to a gray square box with the number 28, then changes back to the standard arrow. Then the mouse continues to jump back to the upper right hand corner of the screen at random intervals.
Have run McAfee with latest definitions, have scanned regedit for anything new... Nothing.
Any Ideas?

I have been having a similar problem - also I have had a file present and running - alevir.exe - I know it is some kind of virus, but I have yet to find any info on it...also my msconfig.exe was deleted. I haven't had the pointer actually change, just jumping around. I use Sygate personal firewall 4.0 and I have never had a problem before. Whoever this is, wrote his own rule in my sygate...anyone know anything about this, your help is greatly appreciated!

o.k...I found info here that says my file alevir.exe is related to the W32.Opaserv.Worm.
I'm not saying this is what you have, but it wouldn't hurt to check this out:

Good Luck!

One more note:...just today, McAfee came out with their latest DAT - 4231...they say it will detect this alevir.exe virus that I have. Ya might want to make sure you have the latest DAT file as of today
:)

I implore you to get at LEAST Norton Antivirus. McAfee is horrid. AVG is a free antivirus program and it runs around McAfee. Also for Kim, run an online scan from www.trendmicro.com.

I have been reading posts here that say the same thing...Mcafee sucks!...wow, I have never had a problem until this opaserve thing. I am in charge of a small network (10 PC's running WIN 98 SE peer to peer all sharing a DSL line). We have always used Mcafee...looks like I will be doing some serious research when it comes time to upgrade, and in the mean time (until I can get the OK to invest in a different AV software) I will look into AVG. Thanks for the info!

Glad it could be useful to you Angie.
By the way, does your network run a firewall? If not then that virus has a really strong chance of making it back onto your network.
We have the same type netword here, and one of the computers got the alevir.exe/brazil.exe etc....worm, and I ended up putting Zone Alarm Pro on the network to stop it. Zone Alarm initially was blocking our computers from talking to each other, but the one thing I like about Zone Alarm is its Trusted Zone, where once a computer is blocked on the network, you can go into Zone Alarm and put that computers IP address in the Trusted Zone.
