Hi.

I am using kazaa lite and have noticed wierd things. If I open the 'My shared folder' link from the desktop that is installed by kazaa lite the JS/No Close window opens and is detected by Mcafee.

Is this something in Kazaa that opens this link or is the JS/No Close a trojan that just happens to activate on this link?

any ideas, thank.

-Chris

...this query has been raised before....see the post 'KaZaA and JS/NoClose' by C. Perry on 19.26.02 7/28/02.....there are details and some links there.
i hope this is a little more helpful than 'edsod's'reply who is obviously not a lover of KaZaA!
Also visit 'slyck.com'which explains all about the different sharing sites.
Good luck.....

edsod and Pooty...you obviously have a strong dislike and mistrust for KaZaA without explaining why? i know it has its faults, but it is also very popular, and also has some rare musical finds which have been difficult to get since the demise of Napster.

Please explain exactly why you don't like KaZaA? I'm interested......

Hi,

The JS/NO Close...is considered a virus..BUT it is not malicious...basically when the program at hand is called upon, a banner/ad will appear on your desktop and you won't be able to close it...so if you go into task manager (ctrl-atl-del) and look at the apps running you will see it there...just hit end taks, and then go and delete the program...no biggie...shoot me back with any other questions, and DON'T stop using Kazaa...it is a great source of info and tools..

the thing i don't understand is why the javascript thing would be activated if he is clicking on an icon on his desktop which is a shortcut to a folder?

I just see in this and some other forums many messages from people infected with viruses (all infections are from email or KaZaa) and many others having tons of spyware and problems with their PC performance.
If you can control these, keep using it...

Thanks "hmm" that is the sole reason for this post, i have checked the links properties and it just points to the directory and I get the no close, however if I explorer the directory on my own I do not get no close.

Though it isn't malicious, and I understand like most other freeware programs kazaa needs funding through banners, it is sneaky and below the belt to hide popups behind links.

If the link was to say "Blahblah/blah/shared folder" /Popup (for example) that would be fine, I know exactly what it is doing, but the fact that the link is modified elsewhere is annoying, I assume its in my registry and again, do not like the fact these types of things can be orchestrated behind the scenes.

Any thoughts.
