hi
really stuck here, got a message from norton
telling me i had a virus but after scanning
it told me it could not repair, quarantine or delete and that access to the file was denied.tried all the stuff like symantec, hijack(which i think i did wrongly as im not very computer wise!)microtrend but to no avail but when i tried trojan removal(microsoft i think) it told me i had no virus but when i tried deleting from temporary internet files i was told it couldnt be deleted to the recycle bin due to the program belonging to someone else..hope this makes sense to someone as for a computer idiot ive had a very long day to no avail lol
many thanks for any help
PaulPaul

What is interesting is that, in the past 2 months, I have done a disk wipe and reinstall of XP Pro. As soon as I download the Java app. from Sun, I am infected. I already have a full battery of spy/mal/virus sweepers running when I download.
It appears the Sun site is infected.

Here are the instructions on how to manually remove these malicious applets from the JRE cache directory:
to get rid of
Java.ByteVerify!
do the following, just fixed my problem.
1. From the Start button, click Settings> Control Panel
2. In the Control Panel, open the "Java Plug-in Control Panel"
3. Select the Cache Tab
4. Click the Clear button inside the Cache Tab, which will clear your JRE cache directory

I have the same problem and tried to follow Max's steps, but I don't have a "cache tab". The tabs I have in my Java Control Panel are:
General
Update
Java
Security
AdvancedNow in the general tab there is "temporary internet files" that I can delete ... is this what you are referring to, or is it something else?
