Will WinTask Pro 4 solve the issue ? Any info much appreciated.

NOT I but L

Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003 only. LSASS is the Local Security Authentication Server. It verifies the validity of user logons to your PC/Server (in technical jargon : it generates the process that is responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service).

Recommendation :
An integral part of the operating system, leave alone.

I completely agree with TooOldForThis.

You wrote, "I've read that it's some part of a trojnan." Don't immediately believe what others say!

Lsass is a vital program. (I)sass how ever is not. It is a trojan that stops your antivirus program from scanning your PC.
Some hackers or retards as I like to call them use names that confuse the regular user.
For example Svchost is a keeper. SVhost is not. So I would make sure that this is not a trojan.
Isass is a variation of the OPTIX PRO TROJAN which opens TCP port 3410 and allows a hacker to control an infected computer. Symantec does not have Isass in itīs database so dont go looking for help there.

But most of all make sure it is a trojan before you do something drastic.

The easiest way to tell if you are dealing with an "i" or an "l" is to hit the "i" key while looking at the processes in Task Manager. If you go to Isass.exe - you're in trouble.

I haven't found any information about removing the process either.

By the way, if you are trying to figure out what any particular process is, just google it.

Yes it's a trojan. Sometimes another program lsas.exe is also running.
In task manager go to processes and end it/them.

Then remove any of these files (if present) with Windows Explorer:

programfilesdir+\dialers\stmtdlr.exe
systemroot+\downloaded program files\moneytree dialer
systemroot+\downloaded program files\muldist.inf
systemroot+\downloaded program files\muldist.ocx
systemroot+\downloaded program files\multidist
systemroot+\downloaded program files\nsliteupdatectrl class
systemroot+\downloaded program files\nsupdatelitectrl class
systemroot+\downloaded program files\software update manager
systemroot+\downloaded program files\unidist.inf
systemroot+\downloaded program files\unidist.ocxactalert.exe
cln4380.tmp
iopti130.dll
nem207.dll
nem210.dll
nem212.dll
optimiser.msg
optimize.exe
unidist.ocx
view_sex_now.exe
wsem210.dll
bl-install4.exe
blss.exe
installer.exe
removeme.exe
safesurfing.dll
safesurfing.exe
ssupdate.exe
ssurf022.dll
un-bl.exe
updaterinstall_102.exe

Try downloading a copy of Spybot, and Adaware, both will help you solve the problem.
also download a free copy of A2 anti-trojan, you can find the link at www.thepublicworks.com security section
through the ants anti-trojan link.

hope this helps,

I believe I too have the isass.exe trojan on my computer, because my norton antivirus is completely messed up and it wont even stay loaded, along with my norton internet security. Heres something weird I've experienced, though:

While I was looking at my processes list to double check if it's an I and not an L, the isass.exe quickly went from the L section to the I section, and back. I don't know how to explain this...but I do know that the best explanation is that I'm seeing all of the effects on my computer being the ones told by the isass.exe...and I'm ready to delete this process at all costs....

Only problem now is, that I can't, because it's listed as a system process. Does anyone know what I can do from there?

If it helps, this effect immediately started last night after I disabled my Norton Internet Security (for playing online chess). I got a message that said that my computer would turn off in [timer]30 seconds, and it kept going down, and it asked me to close all my programs so that it can shut down, and i couldnt close this popup, so I thought to myself, oh no....

Again I ask, please tell me if you know anything on how to close this program, because it is listed as a system process, and it wont let me mess with it at all.

Thanks

The program showing up in Task Manager is in fact Lsass.exe, NOT isass.exe. Here is a brief description.
lsass - lsass.exe - Process Information

Process Name: Local Security Authority Service
Description: Windows Local Security Authority Server Process handles Windows security mechanisms. It verifies the validity of user logons to your computer or server. Technically, the software generates the process that is responsible for authenticating users for the Winlogon service.
Company: Microsoft Corp.
System Process: Yes
Security Risk ( Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): No
Common Errors: N/A
