My winxp fell apart...everything was f---ed up!!! Every game had missing files....every program had corrupted dlls... oh and i have cdrw and dvd drives and when i tried to install something again some files couldn't be read from these devices... oh and i received a few emails with subject error sending message or something containing attachment...and i can't clearly remmember but i think i opened it.... So it looks like Mydoom...or similar backdoor...but when i found out how to remove mydoom i realised that i don't have the entries in registry that i need to remove...so it not mydoom....i destroyed my partitons and created them again and installed win98se... i had to copy back some old very important documents and i again it all started loads of missing and corrupted files in every prog and game.... games somethimes work but just for a while and then just disapear....and there i am on the clear desktop like no game was runnining.... i can't go to any av site... again looks like mydoom but i updated a few avs but they can't find anything...even they brake down with missing and corrupted dlls...... what the hell is this????!!! how can i clean it without deleting my docs???? i cant delete them it my lifework!!!

"i destroyed my partitons and created them again and installed win98se... i had to copy back some old very important documents"

If you deleted the partiton the documents were on, you very well might have overwritten those files with the windows 98 reinstall.

Do you still see the documents but the programs will not open them?

If so, start in dos mode, copy the documents to floppies, take the floppies to another pc and scan them with a good, updated AV program. Once you have them on clean disks, format your drive and reinstall everything.

If not, you may need a data recovery service to get the overwritten documents.

As long as you have the docs, you can just format the drive and then reinstall everything. Installing over the problems in the first place may just have caused more issues, which would be very hard to sort out now.

Start in dos, type format c: and when complete, reinstall your o/s and programs. You can also download the program from your hdd mfr to write 0's to the drive (low level format).

Make sure none of the docs were infected. Make sure there are no hidden files that could be infected.

Ok...am i writting down on alien languge???
I said that i have DELETED MY PARTITIONs and FORMATED THEM and INSTALLED A FRESH WIN98SE ON A COMPLETELY EMPTY HDD and again errors apeared when i copied back my docs from friends HDD!!! I see i can solve my problem by deleting these docs but they are important
my computer is here in my room so i can work with these docs!!! I don't need comp if i don't have these docs!!! And i used number of AVs to scan my entire HDD...but if AV didn't closed cause of some error i mentioned then i couldn't find any virus... and i updated them all well... So is there anybody who knows if this is virus or whatever it is and how to clean it???
again simptomes are: corrupted/missing files, CRC errors in installations, FruityLoops does not start giving me the massage that it's file is changed probably by virus, my games like Generals, Call of duty... suddenly exit or block or report missing/corrupted files, i can't install any hardware drivers again cause thee are missing files on cdrom(???) ... my soundcard Audigy's installation block saying "can't read cd please clean it with soft cloth" ...-MY BOTH TOSHIBA DVD and ASUS RW ARE OK!!!
So what it is??? What is the best AV that i can download for free?

You can go to trendmicro.com and use their online scan.

Downloading an AV might not work, as it could be disabled by whatever virus is already in memory. Not sure how it would effect the online scan, other than not allowing access to the site.

Peter,
donīt get too screwed up by your computer. Although the thing pretents to be the most important thing in the world it isnīt of course.

Have you run scandisk before reformatting. It may very well be your harddisk that is on the brink of breaking down.

Good luck

mr T

Another thing to check is if the fan on your processor is working....a screwed fan will cause the processor to overheat giving all kinds of senceless errors like you are getting. If you shut off the computer say...for the night...does it run ok for a short time then start screwing up again? Take the cover off the tower and boot it up...see if all the fans in there are spinning properly, mabye direct a household fan right in the box and try it for a while...do the errors quit? (dont touch anything in there while running!)
I would be thinking either overheating problem or as Mr. T said the hdd could be going....download the utility that efabes mentioned from the manufacturer of your hdd to check for impending failure.

Did you try slaving the hdd to your friend's computer and run a virus scan from there? As long as you don't run or open anything from your hdd on your friend's computer it is safe to run a scan on it.
If his computer starts freezing up during the scan...I would think hdd going bad.

If your docs are on your friend's hdd...does it work ok on his computer? (dont open any if you think they are infected...just asking if the hdd works ok on his)

I would also look into the possiblity that your ram might be going bad but usually with bad ram you get blue screens of death.
There is a free download to check ram; it does take a while to run all the tests. The tool is called memtest86. You may just need to reseat the ram stick(s) to make sure they are snug in place.

The first thing I would check is the fans both in the power supply and in the pc case because if it is overheating you are going to cook the cpu.
Hope that helps as far as ideas go...
Good luck!

Well few minutes ago i tried to install winamp and it gave me an error massage like "...low memory..." Hm and i changed my case few months ago cause the old one's power unit burned over!!! At first place it really looked like ram is wasted... Could the same power shock that burned power unit damage the ram?! I hope that's it so i can finally buy HyperX! I checked the temps and cpu is about 50c ...looks ok... and i have one extra fan in the case.... OH sometimes while playing game my comp restarts by itself! ..or sometimes it restarts just before going into win...at a second apears a bleu screen and it restarts... Again looks like ram...but rstarting is maybe bios preventing the overheat???
