my has no desktop icons the task bar and the os repair has futile results.somebody tried to open an e-mail (invitation)so it prompted him to reboot the machine and there it was.about 2 weeks ago.now it logs on and log off all alone pliz help

Dave a few questions:
1. When you boot the computer and get the blank screen will task manager open? To open task manager press ctrl,alt,delete at the same time and the task manager should open.
2. Do you have an A: drive (floppy drive)?
3.Can you boot into safe mode of have you tried to boot into safe mode?
