I've looked around the web, and this AV seems to be a good bug-hunter, but I see some complaints about installation, compatibility, crashes, some of those things. I'm wondering if any Trend Micro types here have any thoughts on the current PC-cillin: does it behave itself? Is it pretty smooth?
Thanks

I have used Trend Micro's PC-cillin for about three years - currently using their Internet Security Vers.11
I find it to be an excellent Program - both the Anti-virus and the Firewall - no complaints

I used PC-Cillin 2000 for 4 years with great results; I upgraded to 2004 with Firewall and Spyware Scanner about one month ago.
Never any crashes, conflicts, or problems. Indexes update about once per day. I honestly can say that it has never allowed one virus or trojan on my system in all the years I have used it, including my kids. Nailed 'em all.
My only wishlist with them is being able to turn off the firewall segment only on occasion. If you turn off the firewall, it also turns off the AV part. It's a very minor thing, though. The spyware scanner is weak at best. They really need to beef it up considerably.
However, you have Lavasoft AdAware, Spyware Blaster and Spybot all available for free, and M/Soft will soon incorporate Giant spyware scanner into XP, so that's not an issue.
Yeah, I'm happy and will continue with Trend. Oh, and if you have occasion to call their tech help, it's free and they are very good.Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;
Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.

Thank you for those replies.

ranchhand, do you mean that the AV segment is not available on its own, it has to be part of a suite?Oh - and what about resource? Does it slow things down at all, or is it pretty smooth in that regard?
Thanks again

firewall: If I remember right you can choose to not install the firewall if you wish, but it's good. Even though I have a firewall on my W/less router, I like having another as backup.
PCcillin takes little resources. I have used Norton, and it requires a lot, but many times my son forgets to turn off PCcillin when he plays his PC games with no problems.
BTW- if you click PCcillin's Help and then click the Encyclopedia, it has an online virus/spyware encyclopedia second to none. Nice Perk.

I've used PC-cillin for 10 yrs and wouldn't use anything else and highly recommend it. In 10 yrs I've never been hit by a virus while it was running. I use the current version Internet Security 2005 and just like the versions before it you can turn off the firewall seperately as well as turn off any of the other protections seperately. Two years ago there was a website that had the 13 top trojans listed seperately in zip form. You could download them and see if your antivirus would catch them. Users of the two "top" antivirus programs were boasting that they were catching 11 or 12 out of 13. My PC-cillin caught all 13. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
