Specs: Windows Vista
A shortcut appeared on my desktop yesterday and a window opened saying that Norton Security Scan had scanned my computer and that it was at risk. I have not knowingly installed Norton. The machine came with McAfee pre-installed and I use that. My guess is that this is not a genuine Norton product but that it is malware. How do I get rid of it?

Norton Security Scan (spelt correctly) is a legitimate program - read about it HERE

It should be listed in add/remove programs and can be uninstalled there. If it's spelt slightly differently or is misbehaving then definitely get rid of it.

Thanks John, I have left it alone since posting and it doesn't seem to be doing anything so I guess it is legitimate. It is worrying though because in the past I have had fake security alerts/scans that have caused severe problems and this looked like another one of them. Not very happy with Norton if they are using these sort of tactics.
