Is My System Infected?

I backed up some MP3 files from my friends computer which I think had some viruses on them. Now, my main computer has Symantec AntiVirus on it. I played some MP3 files and then I scanned all of them using Symantec Anti Virus, detecting 3 of them as viruses. Then symantec rebooted my computer and I unplugged the USB Drive and when Windows started, it kept telling me that Symantec has errors and needs to close. Then when I opened a IE Window, it closed after 3 minuites and played an annoying ad audio, then Symantec told me to reboot and then ever since, Symantec Anti Virus kept giving me error messages for RTVScan.exe and other stuff relating to Symantec Anti Virus.

Is my computer affected with a Virus? I mean all I did was scan those files using Symantec Anti Virus and now the program closes! Should I plug in my USB Device? I don't understand how my computer can catch a virus when there is already a virus program on it!

On restart, I get "msln not found, skipping autocheck" and then this time after a few restarts, it told me Symantec Anti Virus cannot complete tasks. Now I am getting software in my Start Menu which I did not install.
