Comment: Hello every one, when I turn on my power supply - my fans are on (they should only be on when I push the power button). When I switch off windows, my fans won't stop... though my screen shuts off and my pc seems to be off (execpt my fans !!). I scaned with NAV and online hotcall my computer and no viruses were found. Can it be a virus in the Bios (or Cmos) level ? How can I get rid of it ... I am not sure that NAV checks Bios .... Many thanks

Reply: (edit)weirder and weirder ... billy you are saying after you power off the CPU and monitor your fans still work. How can that be a virus?? Seems to be one thing you have a wiring fault with your PC ( by the way did this happen always or did it just start happening).. somehow your fans get power AFTER the CPU is shut off .. has to be a wiring fault. If your CPU is on fans run, CPU off fans shouldn't run simple as that anything other than that and its your wiring. A virus can't run your fans when your CPU is powered off .. NEVER heard of it. A virus can edit your bios, cmos, registry, hd .. but how it will manipulate the power cords is beyond me. Get your pc to a technician and have them look at the fan wiring ... unless you want to try that. If however you do turn the switch off the wall and the fans are still running .. be VeRy scared lol its halloween .. you may have gremlins in the Tower LOL .. happy halloween lol

Reply: (edit)I had the same problem. It was not a virus but a program running in the background. I had an old version of Norton AV and when this was running I had to shut down via the start tab then press and hold the power button for a few seconds. If I disabled Norton, then the PC would shut down via the start tab only. It was not a problem once I knew what the cause was. Hope this helps.
