Comment:

Probably a stupid question, but here goes.

I noticed that websites can determine my IP addy, ISP hub, location etc. Is this normal considering that I'm behind a router and a firewall?

Thanks.

Yep it is. If you don't want to be known, you will have to use a proxy.

Yes, they need to know your IP else the websites wouldn't know 'who' to communicate to. As allready sugegsted, you can use a proxy to hide your IP, such as: https://proxify.com/

Using google as a proxy will NOT hide your IP address, it just allows you to access black listed sites from a restricted enviroment.

So to use a proxy, is there any way for to just configure it through Firefox Options and then just forget about it or do I have to go through a web site like Proxify? I assume it's no big risk, either way, but I like to be secure. Haha.

Also, I'm using the web filter Proxomitron, which works by using porxy, but I assume this doesn't do the same thing (I configure my proxy settings for a certain port which Proxomitron runs on and then as connections come through that port, it filters them.

Thanks.

Thanks, everyone. Seems kind of confusing and a little unnecessary at the moment, but if I ever get REALLY paranoid, I'll give it a go.

I also assume that if I use a proxy config in my browser then I won't be able to use Proxomitron?
