Specs: windows
I was online. No prob until later in the day I came back and cannot connect to server. I contacted my dsl provider and they helped me figure out that my ip address starts with 169. How the heck could that occur and what can I do to fix it.

... perhaps your proxy settings are set to an ip address.

... Open Internet Explorer.

... Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

... Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

... Select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box. << uncheck!

... In the Address box, type the address of the proxy server.

... In the Port box, type the port number.

... If your network requires separate proxy addresses for different services, such as HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP, click the Advanced button, and then type the individual proxy server addresses to use.

... When you are finished making changes, click OK until you return to Internet Explorer.

... for Firefox << click!

169.254.x.x addresses are what are called self-assigned (or link-local) IP addresses. That means that you haven't picked up an address from your DHCP server. You could try rebooting. If that doesn't work, reboot your router and then reboot again. If you still have problems you might need to check the DHCP configuration in the router.
