hiya
my problem is evrynow and again when i start my system, my laptop tries to call up the internet without me askin it to, anything from 1 to 15 times. it seems to do it more often if its working by battery alone. i've tried formatting the thing but it has still done it. i've got avg,ad aware, spyblaster, spy bot, but none of them have detected the problem. Any ideas? cheers, andreas.

Open the Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections Tab and make your selection from here. You probably have it set to Always dial my default connection.

It's almost certainly a program - AVG possibly - trying to update itself automatically. Can't remember off-hand if you can disable auto-update but have a look in that direction.
