just got rid of the w32 gaobot.cll virus and now internet explorer nor msn 6.2 will work. however, i CAN get to the internet using firefox and web messenger (since msn 6.2 won't work). not that much of a deal except i can't get to the avast site to download updates and it's autodownloader also won't work. i ran hijackthis and came up with a list that doesn't seem to have anything out of the ordinary. any suggestions on how to make iexplorer come back? thanks for any and all help!!

I've seen this advice given in this website for several IE connection problems. Goto your control panel > add/remove programs > then under the Install/Uninstall Tab scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (highlight it) click the add/remove button (this will open) another dialog window to allow you to Repair Internet Explorer My instructions are for WIN 98SE, but I assume that the XP directions are about the same. I'm behind the times in technology! Is it the year 2000 yet? I know Conan O'brien keeps saying, "In year 2000...JPQ will still think Commodores are the coolest PCs ever." thanks JPQ for your response. there is no internet explorer 6 in the add/remove section of control panel. i am familiar with win98se and the easier way to repair iexplorer. this XP stuff is kind of new to me too and it seems like the only way to repair ie6 is to repair XPsp2 with the setup disk. i guess i'll have to do it.
