Internet Browsers Not Working

February 8, 2009 at 11:56:21
Specs: Windows XP
My desktop pc had a virus on it and my AVG antivirus software put it in the virus vault. But now I cannot get online through internet explorer or Mozilla Firefox. They will open but the pages won't load. I tried a couple things like making a new profile and reinstalling Firefox but nothing works. Do I still have a virus that it didn't take off?

Probably, try this registry edit to reset the internet domains first, we may have try a different method if this does not help.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste all the instructions between the X’s below to it.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\EscDomains]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\EscDomains]
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Next,
Back on the Desktop, double-click on the fixme.reg file you just saved and click on Yes when asked to merge the information.

Try to get online and onto a web page.

by any chance has this been fixed? I don't think it was a virus because i have had the same problem for about as long as this post has been up, as well as others on other sites. I've tried many logical things but nothing seems to work. Please help me if you figured it out.

I did fix it. All it was is Norton Internet security blocking my browsers. I disabled it(then removed it since I don't use Norton). It has been fine since then. So maybe some program is blocking yours?
