Internet and local network d/l speed drastically reduced

Specs: Windows XP SP2, Intel P4 dual core 3 GHz
My PC was running fine until last Wednesday.
I am using AVAST free anti virus. That day, it detected a rootkit and asked to do a boot scan. I did the complete boot scan. Since then, my internet speed has dropped drastically and now it is 5-10 KB/s and it reduces even further. Previously, it was minimum 100-200 KB/s.

My PC is also connected to a local intranet. Even, that has slowed down.

Other PCs in my network are working fine with the download speed mentioned above. Only my PC has slowed down. There is no problem with LAN cable/ethernet switch/network

Sounds as though there is more going on. What was detected originally? I would consider running Malwarebytes as an added scan. I would also consider running rkill before said scan. If its an unwanted rootkit this should remove it.
