Download.com Review of Privacy Tools 2004

This antispyware utility disappointed us on most counts. One of this app's few positives is its intuitive, clearly labeled interface, though we wish it were resizable. In our tests Privacy Tools 2004 took a rather lengthy 10 minutes to perform its quickest type of scan and found only two of five installed pieces of adware. The real-time protection also failed to detect malicious applications while they were being loaded onto our PC. The program lets you back up adware components in case certain programs won't run without them, and you can schedule scans at desired intervals.

However, the trial version doesn't remove the adware it finds, making it impossible to evaluate the program's power and otherwise limiting its usefulness. All told, we'd point most users to a more capable and less restrictive adware-removal tool.

My host file will not let go to
the venders site.
My temptation to try that crap, just to see
what I don't have has passed.

OMG....does it ever end with Ash1ey???

Reading the post(s) from the link I gave above....any reader with half a brain will see it is enough to turn them off Ash1ey and ANY of his products and any products from his affiliates....even if it is possible for him to create something useful and origional....meaning his own work..

Still shaking my head...lol...I cant believe someone can be proud of that crap.

I never give up!

Well, he did put some time, and money into it, after all in May he had two "box covers" designed for him ($35). In June he had a website designed for him ($150). And in August he got around to buying a Spybot ripoff data base ($350) and had someone write up positive reviews ($25). Also saw where he paid to have the front-end program written and was expecting to pay $200 per month for definition updates. And I am sure he had other costs. From his point of view, he was going to help people and make some money at the same time. When sells did not go well he tried to sell out to recover his expenses.

His claim of not ever damaging anyones computer might just be true. He may not have sold more than a handful of copies. And most of what his program found was changes put in by other spyware blocking programs.

Hi,

I am the same "Harry Letterman" as in the Spyware Warrior Forum thread re PT 2004.

I can agree, to a point, with JackG's comments about the probable money that Ashley put into PT 2004. I fully understand and agree with Ashley's posts at SW that he is in business to make money, as are most people. What I do not agree with, however, is JackG's opinion that Ashley's claim of not ever damaging anyones computer might just be true. I also do not agree that helping people was ever foremost in Ashley's mind. To me, Ashley's overriding goal in life is to make as much $$$ as possible, by whatever means, as quickly as he can. If innocent people are screwed in the process, and they are able to prove that either Ashley or his products were culpable, then Ashley MIGHT issue a refund, when he gets around to it.

A bit of research into Ashley's alleged businesses and contradictory posts at SW Forum (see Suzi's Blog - http://www.netrn.net/archives2/000649.html) shows me that he will do ANYTHING to fatten his wallet, ethics and morals be damned! This is my personal opinion.

Ashley chose NOT to sell his "full ownership and copyright" in Adware-Remover.net and ADS Adware Remover on eBay for $7100 because his reserve was not met ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3820156558&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 ). While I admit to not knowing how much Ashley invested in these apps, it seems to me that he was just too bloody greedy. Again, that is my opinion.

If you follow through all the links on eBay to his other buy and sell posts, you can get an idea of what he was spending money on. You also learn he did not have money to burn and a problem with "reality" as to what people will buy. At one point he was trying to sell a jogging outfit on eBay that he could not return to the store he bought it from because he had "only worn it three times". His biggest fault as a seller seems to be his ability to tell the truth (as he sees it). Someone out to scam the world quickly loses the ability to tell anything related to the truth. I actually think there is hope for him if he learns positive lessons from his attempts to make money and people lighten up on him and give some guidance and advice.

I find it interesting that all of the posts have been directed at him, not at tracking down the "real programmers" who were willing to sell him ripped off software and data bases for next to nothing. I have not seen a single post suggesting to him that he help track down these people. I bet he would.
