In the past couple of weeks I've had had the info32.exe problem: starting up the computer, I got the following messages: (1) "Cannot find the file 'info32.exe' [or one of its components]. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available" (2) Could not load or run 'info32.exe' specified in the WIN.INI file. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the WIN.INI file."

Following a thread on this web site, I tried to fix this, such as editing the "run=...32" line to be "run= ", installing, updating and running spybot, etc. I got rid of the info32.exe messages at startup, then tried to download http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip. I was able to save it, but the hyperterminal prompt stumped me. When I try to run cwshredder, I keep getting the message "Could not read the session file: C\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content\IE5\OLIJKPMR\cwshredder[1].zip.ht." I also tried http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/junk/cwshredder.exe, and received the following messages: (1) "A required .DLL file, MSVBVM60, was not found" and (2) Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied."

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

First, Install the Microsoft VB6 Runtime files:
http://www.5star-shareware.com/Utilities/Libraries/vb6.html

Then download and run CWShredder:

thanks a lot tom41!! worked great. IE is now working normally. Also had good luck with scrolling in Word, which speeded up a lot. But now, even though IE continues to work well, Word scrolling has slowed, which is a bit annoying after having used it when it was flying. I tried to correct the word part, but no success yet. Any suggestions?
thanks again

cwshredder destroyed my computer. It corrupted my explorer to the point that I would start windows and get nothing but my background with no precoess running and no munues. My friend helped me alter a boot file so that I can run program manager ala win 3.11, but I cannot get explorer to work. I ran regedit from task manager and find that I have less than 50% of the reg entries that I should have. I understand that in order to remove coolwebsearch, cwshred would have to attack some reg entries, but it seems to have gone haywire and ruined my system. I am greatful that I can slave my hd's and save my data, but whats the deal? This was supposed to be a simple fix to a relatively minor annoyance. Now my computer is bunked. Did I do something wrong, or can anyone suggest a fix before I reformat and resintall?
Thanks,
Mike

I just wanted to express my thanks. I was having the same problem as dwm34, which started jsut this morning. So I searched for "info32.exe" on Google and it brought me here. Although I was afraid cwshredder might kill my computer like it did with Mike, but I risked it and now everythings alright. Even these annoying "xads" windows that would pop up and disapear every so often have stopped. Oh well, I just want to say thanks again. For a second there I thougth I was going to have to reinstall (I hate having to do that).
