No-one responded to my earlier Blazefind on Toolbar post but I have since learnt a few things about it and I think I should share the info here.
The "search assistant" window that used to appear down on my toolbar was definately an invasive install. The name "BlazeFinder" appears regularly in Adaware and other virus scans and there is an obvious connection. Perhaps the following description is relevant?
I have since had an issue with this computer that involved it logging off immediately after logging on. See my post http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/13973.html
Now that that problem is solved - the "Search Assistant" toolbar window has gone, along with additions to the normal Windows toolbar menu (accessed by right clicking on toolbar).
All I can say to all this is that if you have an unwelcome search assistant window appear on your toolbar - and you click on it and it takes you to a site call "BlazeFind", which purports to be a seach-engine - well, expect trouble and possibly an impending crash. I know that the more I tried to get rid of this pesky SA the more it appeared. It seemed to pickup pace as to when it appeared, leading me to suspect that it had some sort of inbuilt timer as it counted down to ...?
The lavasoft article http://www.lavasofthelp.com/articles/v6/04/06/0901.html refers to Blazefind and it is the direct connection between this and the log-on/log-off problem that makes me think that the corruption of my Winlogon files and Search Assistant and BlazeFind are all related.
I hope this info helps anyone with similar occurances.
