Infection message (Win7)

Specs: Windows 7
So i don't know what happened but 2 days ago, my Firefox closed and i got messages from win 7 antivirus i think it was saying i had a crap load of viruses and that i need to register the product to remove, blah blah blah. It wouldn't let me access Firefox either because for every page it would say its not a trusted site. It gave me the option to proceed anyways but it wouldn't get past that page. So i did system restore, i restored it to before new years, and it worked fine until today, it happened again. So I just did it again, but this time to an earlier date. I was wondering if system restore actually does something against this problem.

AS well as running System Restore you should run your own security program, and also download & run Malwarebytes because whatever you downloaded originally is still on there.
