Hello, I have Agnitum Outpost firewall (the free one).

The problem started a few days ago (I had the firewall for about 5 days before that without any issues).

I couldnt get onto the net, I checked the logs and found something that went along the lines that my computer was automatically changing the IP address, I couldnt connect to the net nor could I connect to the modems settings. (im on a web excel ethernet adsl modem), when I tried to came up that connection was refused.

I tried turning the firewall off and on with no change.

I just turned the modem off and on, suddenly I was receiving data (something that was not happening before), so I tried getting to google, no luck but I set the firewall to allow all and well im back on the net.

Ive done an avg scan and it came up clean, but it still dosent sound right, that it should suddenly happen. Now I have to have the firewall on allow all just to get onto the net.

Is it just an issue with the firewall or could it be the presence of something like a virus that avg missed?

Try downloading Ewido Anti-Malware It will search for Hijackers, dialers, trojans,Spyware and then prompt you to remove it when it finds something
Also Try Hijack This then paste your log on the Analyzer Page then click on analyze to see what nastys may be lurking on your system

Have to reset/disconnect the modem is quite common. Most people do not know that it should be done before they call their ISP for help, so you are a pretty savvy novice. The problems you are having with Outpost is not. Have you checked what the status of your XP firewall is, to see if it is turned off? I would remove Outpost using add/remove programs and get another software firewall like Kerio or Sygate which is still available at Old Versions.Com.

While i enjoy a challenge, i found outpost to be more complicated then it needs to be.Sounds like a rule issue.Go into the rules section and look for references to your computer, ip address, adapter, etc.Might just need to edit a rule or create a new one pertaining to your system. If outpost isn't your cup of tea, then i recommend Kerio 4.Tested many firewalls before settling on Kerio and its great.Kerio was purchased by Sunbelt Software who make Counterspy and were the creaters of Giant, which is now "Windows Defender".There is a free version, and free trial of the full version and the paid version is only $19.95.Great deal.
