IEXPLORER.EXE problem

When ever i start up my computer even if i don't use internet explorer i find a extra 1 or 2 IEXPLORER.exe files running in tast manager. I'm pretty sure its some kind of ad-ware/spy-ware but all the anti-ad/spyware scans i've done still haven't solved the problem. The applications usually take up alot of memory so it lags my computer quite a bit. I was wundering if anyone else has encountered this problem, and if so, plz help =)
