IExplore.exe, running in background

Hello, this seems the best place for me to post my problems, so i hope I can get some help.

Ive recently noticed that my computer runs a bit slower when i have a number of tasks running. so checking the windows task manager I noticed that Internet explorer was constantly running using about 30MB of ram.. and there were 2 copies running to boot! all this is happening in the background, when Im not even using Internet Explorer (I prefer Firefox), i used to get some advert pop ups in IE too, but only when i was using firefox, so i believe this may be soem type of adware, spyware... but im no expert and may be wrong.

Ive tried ending the task, but then another copy of the program immediaetly replaces it.. ive even tried renaming the actual .exe file to see if that would stop it from running, but then another Iexplore.exe is created... I was going to try and remove Iexplore from the system, but of course I need that now for windows updates etc.

heres a screenshot of the task manager to show you what i mean, and note, that im not actualy using iexplorer at this time!!

i have 2 computers, run windows defender regularly, and its only on this computer that i have this problem with Iexplore... its becoming quite annoying now, so i hope someone knows what the problem is or a way to help me.

Thanks for any help. Ryan
